Pecan Burgers

pecan burger

I have never tried this recipe, but I’ve also never heard of a pecan burger, so I thought I would post it in case anyone is feeling adventurous. If you do decide to give it a go, let me know how it is.

I was looking around the foodnetwork.com site, did a search for “pecans”, and this was one of the first recipes to show up. I probably will end up trying it. I mean, how could it really taste bad? It’s from Paula Dean, and if you don’t know who Paula Dean is, all you need to know is that she’s Southern and doesn’t skimp on the flavor… or butter or bacon or heavy cream, for that matter. The recipe seems simple enough and would probably be a nice addition to a barbecue, although not one you’d incorporate into your everyday collection of recipes.

Let me know what you think. Email me and tell me if you’ve tried it.

How to get anyone to eat salmon

Pecan Store March 16th, 2009

I came across this video (see below) about how to cook and get anyone to eat salmon. The answer: coat it in pecans and bake it! This video is actually pretty informative and it has a cute, homemade quality to it. I love the salmon information in the beginning and how he corrects the way he says “pecans.” This is definitely a must-try recipe for me.

Pecan Pie Candle

Pecan Store March 10th, 2009

Want that fresh-baked pecan scent without the trouble of baking? Then this candle is definitely for you. I came across a website that sells a maple pecan pie-scented candle shaped like an actual pecan pie. I had to look at the picture closely, because it looks so real that I wasn’t sure if it really was a candle!

The pecan pie candle comes in a 9-inch pie tin, has a braided crust, a layer of pecans and a few dollops of whip cream. All fake, of course, but it is done with such detail that it looks completely realistic. Take a look:

Kitchen Tools No One Should Live Without

kitchen tools no one should go without

I love all things kitchen and baking. I know it can be a bit on the pricey side, but I really do enjoy shopping for fun gadgets, baking mixes and professional kitchen tools. While I was browsing through Williams-Sonoma the other day, it dawned on me that I already have so many great kitchen tools, I don’t know what I would do without them. So, I made a list of my top 5 favorites:

  • Citrus Juicer – I love that I don’t have to purchase an expensive juicer to get fresh squeezed citrus. Nor do I have to fiddle with an old-fashioned juicer that makes me feel like all that effort got me so little. This handy little gadget does it all for me and manages to get every last drop possible.
  • Rabbit Corkscrew – I’ve had mine for so long, I hardly remember what it was like opening a bottle of wine without it. No more cork pieces floating around in the bottle. No more struggling or needing two people for one simple task. It’s a beautiful invention.
  • Olive and Cherry Pitter – Have you ever tried to make homemade olive tapenade or bake anything with fresh cherries in it? If you have, then you probably have this handy tool on a pedestal. Simple and quick, just one press makes pitting cherries and olives as simple as can be.
  • Apple Slicer – Yes, I’m aware that slicing an apple is not that difficult, but it saves a lot of time and it’s just fun to use.
  • Mandoline – Perfectly slice, dice and julienne almost any fruit or vegetable you can think of. It’s kind of dangerous to use without the finger guard, but this thing is awesome! It’s great for entertaining because everything comes out looking so professional and, well, pretty.

What are some kitchen tools you can’t live without?
